Hot Yoga For The Injured
Updated: Apr 29, 2019

Do you have an injury? Are you struggling with healing and are becoming frustrated with your slow progress?? God knows I am!! I hurt my thigh muscles a while back. Not really sure how or when I just know it hurts like crazy and I have left it too long.
My first stop was physio and they were awesome. After a month or so of going there a couple times a week my physiotherapist recommended I try Hot Yoga. Specifically the "stretch" class or restorative class - where all of the work is done on the mat (e.g. no standing poses). Oh My God! I've never actually tried hot yoga before - and it is definitely that - It's HOT! Not only did I love it but my muscles loved it too.
I'm sure many of you when you have a sore back or neck, you go and heat up that "Magic" bag and wrap it around your "pain" and often times we feel better. We feel better because the heat increases the blood flow to the area, relaxing and loosening the tissues/muscles. It takes the tension away, eliminating or diminishing the pain. Hot Yoga is the same idea, but your whole body gets heated. Your muscles will relax and loosen. This allows your body to achieve a much greater range of motion than normal!! Even though sweat was pouring down my face and I felt like I was having a hot flash (and I am not even menopausal) - I absolutely loved it!!
If you are one of those people suffering from aches and pains, and are no longer in the acute phase, I strongly recommend that you seek out your local Hot Yoga location and ask about the restorative Yoga class. Namaste.
